Musings

What I want to learn.

I have taken an interest in design strategy in recent months and think it could be beneficial to have a project that shows us how the design process can go beyond just creating graphics. The lecture the advanced class attended by Jay Wilkins last semester was particularly where my interest in this subject comes from. I'd like the opportunity to expand the tools I have to solving problems.

If you could chose a a project to work on or a subject to learn in this class, what would it be?
I think a collaborative group project would be very useful for me. I haven't had a lot of  experience at all of working with other designers. It is my understanding that in a studio setting it is rare to ever work on a project totally alone. Doing something that would force me to effectively communicate, work with others and learn how to lean on their strengths to help make up for my weaknesses would be a welcomed experience.

What issues are your biggest concerns with you developing as a designer?
I don't obsess enough over getting every detail right, there are always spelling errors or small things that slip by me when working on a project. As they say the "devil is in the details" and I think a really good designer should be meticulous about the small things. I have a tendency to settle for things being "good enough" when really what I'd like to strive for is "the best I possibly could." I also have had poor craftsmanship (smudges, crooked  or rough edges, cut too far in, pixelated images, folds and wrinkles) in the past that I've worked hard on improving but I still feel like I can improve even more.
